WELCOME TO ACEDIA

So, guess who got commissioned to search another archive by BORE? That's right! Aren't you lucky?

This one's real simple, at least. Once you're ready, I'll connect you to an old academy ark, 'Acedia'. Coordinates were so far out, it was pretty hard to get a stable connection- probably why it was abandoned, too. No life signs on board. Wanna take a bet on why...? Heh, well anyway, here's the instructions:

Wake up the old system AI, !Rue, and have her unlock the archive logs. Find out what happened to our subjects of interest; girl named Kui and her companion, designation C-06.

View and download whatever files !Rue unlocks, then decompile it- I can do the rest.

Should be a quick mission, right? Don't disappoint me now.

Very thrilling all the way through. I'm a sucker for the mechanics of going through archives to progress—it makes every new item alluring and necessitates close reading, on top of the story's natural allure and intrigue! And impressive on a technical level to implement too!

Voicing is also a welcome surprise, it and the music and sound is used to great effect building the atmosphere.

This game had me hooked from start to finish, getting to slowly piece together the bigger picture through text/audio logs and pictures was really immersive, the voice acting surprised me it's SO GOOD. There's also so many layers to the dynamics between the characters!!

First of all, Rue is really cute.

Anyways, I love self-guided stories like this: searching through metadata and codecies and whatnot to reveal a bigger picture is quite a novel approach, and when done with care as seen here, it's captivating. In this game, the concept is taken further with both the player character and 'guide' themselves being part of the narrative. The puzzle box structure was immersive and it was fun to unravel (or, at times, become wrapped up in) the mysteries at the heart of the story.

Sound design, voice acting, and music are also worth shouting out. The terminal sfx made for a tactile experience, and the voice acting (so ambitious for a jam game!) was clearly tricked out with skill and precision.

If you liked 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim, you'll find much to love here.
